The second prototype was derived from the movement of a twirling of an umbrella. A mechanism was planned to be placed to resembles the movement of umbrella, going up and down.

An attempt on the mechanism of the second prototype.

FINAL

The final prototype is inspired by two subject which are Chinese umbrella dance and also the mixture of old & new umbrella.

The movement of a dancer while dancing involves twirling, spinning and also bringing the umbrella up and down.

Then, the idea of mixing old and new umbrella is to signify the fading culture of old traditional umbrella as the current existing one replacing the old design of umbrella.

The fusion of material and twirling of both old & new umbrella can be seen in the sketch below along with a human figure in the middle to reflect the purpose of an umbrella which is to protect or to shield.

Attached is the mechanism derived from the spinning of an umbrella.
